The State Innovation Exchange (SiX) is hosting our national conference again in 2024!
For the first time, our national conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia. At SiX, we know that states have long been on the front lines of protecting and advancing our most fundamental rights, and it's fitting that we should gather at this pivotal moment in our nation’s history in a city known as the cradle of the Civil Rights Movement and a state that has been so consequential in strengthening our democracy from the frontlines.
We’ll also be marking 10 years of working with state legislators to advance bold, people-centered policy to create an equitable, resilient, healthy, and prosperous future for all. We hope you’ll join us and hundreds of state legislators, national and state movement partners, and other stakeholders to celebrate, strategize for bold policy wins, and build community!
At SiX’s 2024 National Conference, legislators and advocates will:
- Develop strong connections with their peers and build a cross-state community in pursuit of a values-aligned network of bold legislative champions
- Embody their roles as members of a movement to build and shift power for their communities by building state governments that are of, by, and for the people
- Understand how SiX can support them and their colleagues in advancing progressive policies and build power in their states
- Develop organizing and governing tools to champion policies that advance racial, gender, social, and economic justice
Irresistible Futures: Moving from Impossible to Inevitable
This year’s conference, Irresistible Futures: Moving from Impossible to Inevitable, reflects our vision at SiX for a future where all people have power and agency over their lives. At SiX, we believe that legislators are uniquely positioned to bring that future to bear, from the states outward, through deep collaboration with the communities they represent.
We are firmly rooted in a global and multi-generational view of the work before us today to directly challenge rising authoritarian threats with an affirmative vision for a vibrant, multi-racial democracy. Lessons from global and historical movements illuminate our paths in acting toward this future—one that our work together in cross-state movements will make irresistible. This global and long-arc view emboldens us to:
- Practice collaborative governance in new ways that center communities and people, build trusting relationships with each other, share power in ways that enhance the power of those around us, and stitch movements together across boundaries. Transforming how we organize together and relate to one another is necessary for a transformation in the systems we seek to change.
- Transform the conditions of governance and deliver policy wins in a generative feedback loop. Disrupting systems of oppression and implementing policies that change the conditions of people's lives creates a virtuous cycle of growing and wielding people power that outlasts any legislative session or individual policy win. Our movement’s vision for the future becomes irresistible to people when they see their own hopes and dreams in the future that we unfold.
When we center people in our practice of transforming civic power through policy, we build a durable governance system that will produce and sustain meaningful racial, gender, social, and economic justice outcomes for the people who have been most impacted by systemic and structural oppression.
Within our movement, each of us has a vision for a future that we can make irresistible through collaborative governance, and together, at Irresistible Futures, we’ll gather to share, strategize, and support each other in answering:
