About me
Pushkar Sharma is the founder of SACRED (the South Asian American Coalition to Renew Democracy), an action research and advocacy organization focused on advancing democracy and countering supremacist movements within the South Asian American community in Illinois. Prior to founding SACRED, he worked as a Human Rights Officer for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (Geneva, Switzerland) and from 2015 to 2019 served in a chief of staff role to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General at the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). From 2013 to 2015 Pushkar was the Gaza Director for the UN Humanitarian Access Coordination Unit. He's been published by Prism Reports, Al-Jazeera, OpenDemocracy, Chicago Sun-Times, International Peace Institute, Quincy Institute and InkStick Media. He holds a MPA in Human Rights from Columbia University in New York and a BA in International Studies and Drama from Washington University in St. Louis.
