About me
La’Tasha D. Mayes (she/her) was elected to the Pennsylvania House in 2022, representing District 24. Originally from West Philadelphia, she moved to Pittsburgh in 1999 for college and has been a community leader for over 20 years. Mayes holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.S. in public policy & management from Carnegie Mellon University. As the founder and former CEO of New Voices for Reproductive Justice, Mayes advocated for the health and rights of marginalized communities, especially Black women, femmes, and gender-expansive individuals. She has served on the Governor’s Advisory Commission on African American Affairs and as Vice Chair of the Allegheny County Human Relations Commission. Mayes is the first woman and the first out lesbian to represent District 24 in the Pennsylvania General Assembly. She credits her mother, a single mom and Army veteran, for inspiring her passion for justice.
